Part-time internship (15-20 hours a week)
Microbiome Research Intern (Data Analyst)
Qualifications
- Pursuing or holding an MS/PhD in microbiology and/or bioinformatics.
- Minimum of 2+ years of experience in computational data analysis for microbiome research.
- Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience with wet lab experiments in a microbiology research setting.
- Proficiency in R programming (phyloseq, ggplot2, vegan), Qiime, and blast.
- Experience with DNA extraction and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques.
- Flexibility to accommodate global team collaboration and varied working hours.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
- Strong critical and creative thinking skills.
Responsibilities
- Conduct analysis and visualization of microbiome data using R.
- Evaluate and compare sequencing capabilities through the testing of various sampling methods and protocols.
- Conduct scientific literature research.
- Generate, analyze, and present research results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Efficiently manage tasks and meet tight deadlines.
- Contribute to scientific writing for Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and publications.
- Provide valuable insights for diverse microbiome research projects and technologies.
- Create instructions, quizzes and experimental protocols
Nice to Have (Not Required)
- Familiarity with additional tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, AWS and Figma.
- In-depth understanding of various microbiome sequencing techniques, including shotgun metagenomics, 16S/ITS amplicon sequencing, and qPCR.
- Knowledge of multi-omics, including transcriptomics and metabolomics.
- Understanding of skin biology.

- This is a full-time remote position, which can be started as a part-time
- Flexible working hours to accommodate collaboration across PST and CET time zones
- Occasional early morning or evening meetings may be required
- Strong internet connection and home office setup required
