The role

Part-time internship (15-20 hours a week)
Microbiome Research Intern (Data Analyst)

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or holding an MS/PhD in microbiology and/or bioinformatics.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience in computational data analysis for microbiome research.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of hands-on experience with wet lab experiments in a microbiology research setting.
  • Proficiency in R programming (phyloseq, ggplot2, vegan), Qiime, and blast.
  • Experience with DNA extraction and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) techniques.
  • Flexibility to accommodate global team collaboration and varied working hours.
  • Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across cross-functional teams.
  • Strong critical and creative thinking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct analysis and visualization of microbiome data using R.
  • Evaluate and compare sequencing capabilities through the testing of various sampling methods and protocols.
  • Conduct scientific literature research.
  • Generate, analyze, and present research results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Efficiently manage tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Contribute to scientific writing for Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions and publications.
  • Provide valuable insights for diverse microbiome research projects and technologies.
  • Create instructions, quizzes and experimental protocols

Nice to Have (Not Required)

  • Familiarity with additional tools such as Python, SQL, Power BI, AWS and Figma.
  • In-depth understanding of various microbiome sequencing techniques, including shotgun metagenomics, 16S/ITS amplicon sequencing, and qPCR.
  • Knowledge of multi-omics, including transcriptomics and metabolomics.
  • Understanding of skin biology.

Work Environment

  • This is a full-time remote position, which can be started as a part-time
  • Flexible working hours to accommodate collaboration across PST and CET time zones
  • Occasional early morning or evening meetings may be required
  • Strong internet connection and home office setup required
