WHY THE SKIN MICROBIOME MATTERS?

AND WHY YOUR BRAND SHOULD CARE

The skin microbiome is a vital ecosystem of microorganisms that plays a key role in skin health, resilience, and appearance. When this ecosystem is balanced, skin is clearer, calmer, and better protected. When it’s disrupted, issues like acne, dryness, inflammation, and sensitivity often follow.

Our at-home microbiome test delivers actionable insights into each individual’s skin health and the external factors influencing it. This empowers your brand to recommend or formulate personalized skincare routines with purpose and precision.

SKIN MICROBIOME TEST FAQ

Why does the microbiome matter in product development?

The skin microbiome-a dynamic ecosystem of bacteria, fungi, and other microorganisms—plays a critical role in maintaining skin health, resilience, and appearance. Disruption to this balance is increasingly linked to conditions such as acne, eczema, and premature aging.

For forward-thinking skincare and ingredient manufacturers, understanding the microbiome isn’t just a scientific curiosity-it’s a strategic advantage. By integrating microbiome insights into product R&D, you can formulate targeted, evidence-backed products that support microbial balance, address specific skin concerns, and meet growing consumer demand for microbiome-friendly solutions. In a competitive landscape, this positions your brand at the forefront of innovation and skin wellness.

How is the microbiome sample analyzed, and what insights will the test provide?

We utilize Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) to deliver high-resolution microbiome profiling. Specifically, we conduct 16S rRNA sequencing for bacterial communities and ITS sequencing for fungal identification, enabling a comprehensive understanding of the microbial landscape on the skin.

Our analysis provides a quantitative overview of the top microbial taxa-including the 10 most abundant bacterial and fungal genera present. Each sample is evaluated and scored based on the relative abundance of beneficial versus potentially harmful microbes.

What is the typical turnaround time for microbiome test results?

Once the skin swab sample is received at our lab via the provided prepaid shipping envelope, results are typically delivered within 3 to 7 days. This turnaround includes sample processing using NGS, automated data cleaning and bioinformatics analysis, as well as generation of a detailed microbiome profile and insights report.

Will the microbiome data be shared with third parties?

Individual results remain confidential and are never shared with third parties. All data is anonymized and aggregated to contribute to our growing microbiome database. This aggregated dataset enables us to:

  • Identify microbial trends across different skin types, demographics, and conditions
  • Inform the development of evidence-based, microbiome-targeted formulations
  • Support scientific research aimed at solving skin health challenges with greater precision

By contributing anonymized data, you’re helping build a robust, research-grade foundation that drives innovation across the skincare and ingredient development ecosystem, while maintaining full compliance with global data privacy standards.

What is the cost of the microbiome testing service?

Pricing is flexible and based on the level of service and customization required. Key variables that influence cost include:

  • White-label or co-branded options
  • Level of scientific and formulation support
  • Depth of personalized recommendations and reporting features
  • Volume of tests ordered (bulk pricing available)

Whether you’re integrating microbiome testing into product development, consumer research, or marketing initiatives, we offer scalable solutions tailored to your brand’s objectives and budget.

How can our company access or integrate microbiome testing?

Microbiome testing services are available directly through our team for B2B partnerships and product development programs. We collaborate with skincare brands, ingredient suppliers, and innovation teams to integrate testing into R&D and formulation pipelines, consumer trials and efficacy studies, marketing campaigns and educational content. B2B partners benefit from customized testing kits, white-label options, data integration support, and enterprise-level reporting.

Can this microbiome test be used for medical or clinical purposes?

No. This microbiome analysis is intended for research, product development, and general wellness insights. It is not a diagnostic tool and does not claim to prevent, diagnose, or treat any medical conditions. The data provided is non-clinical and should not be used to inform medical decisions. However, it offers valuable insight into the skin’s microbial balance, which can support:
